Hannah Downen ca. 1770 - ca. 1820

Hannah Downen was born about 1770 in what was then Pendleton District or Pendleton County, but the area is now part of Anderson County, South Carolina. She was the daughter of Josiah Downen (1740-1802) and Mary Elizabeth Smith (1747-1835).

She married James Dixon (1761-1828), supposedly in Christian County, Kentucky, in 1788. They had the following children:

Robert R. Dixon (1800-1855)
Samuel L. Dixon (1805-1876)
John Robert Dixon (1809-1875)
Polly Dixon (1810-1846)

The first census record I've found that I believe with some certainty to show Hannah's husband James Dixon is from the 1810 census for Orange County, North Carolina. This is the only census record I've found from 1810 that looks like a match for James and Hannah and their family. (census image here).

Hannah is believed to have died around 1820 in Smith Mills, Henderson County, Kentucky. I don't know if the family was actually living there or if they were en route to Posey County, Indiana, where James showed up in the 1820 census in Marrs Township. (census image here).

James died in 1828 in Posey County and is buried in Dixon Cemetery at West Franklin in Marrs Township. I don't know where Hannah is buried, Henderson County is right across the Ohio River from Posey County but if she died there she was most likely buried there as well.
