Dicey McKinnis
Dicey Gwaltney was born in Posey County, Indiana, USA, ca. 1843. She was the daughter of Benjamin Gwaltney (1800-1886) and Sarah Murphy Gwaltney (1800-1860).
She married Willis McKinnis (1839-1923) on 26 November 1861 in Posey County. They had the following children:
James B. McKinnies (1864-1939)
Sarah Jane McKinnis (1868-1951)
Ruth Ann McKinnis (1870-1960)
William Daniel McKinnis (1871-1953)
Dicey showed up in the 1850 census with her family in Robinson Township in Posey County. (census image here)
After her marriage to Willis, Dicey showed up in the 1870 census in Center Township of Posey County. Three of the couple's four children showed up as well (since William wasn't born yet), along with an 11 year old named Sarah London or Londen and Willis's 21 year old brother James. Between her youngest son William Daniel's birth on 12 December 1871 and 10 March 1875, Dicey dropped out of sight. She is buried in the Gwaltney Cemetery in Posey County, but her death date is unknown. Her husband Willis remarried in 1875, to Louisa Jane Ramsey Pitts. Further inference of her death can be presumed from Willis and Louisa naming their first child together (a daughter) Dicy McKinnis, presumably after Dicey Gwaltney McKinnis.
Dicey is buried near her father, mother, a brother, a sister, a brother-in-law, and other Gwaltneys who are almost certainly related but how I don't know. Willis lived until 1923, when he died in Saline County, Illinois. He and Louisa are buried in Bellefontaine Cemetery near Mount Vernon, Indiana.
