Margaret Duckworth
Margaret McKinnis was born on 14 October 1846 in Posey County, Indiana, USA. She was the daughter of James McKinnis (ca. 1806-1868) and Jane Elkins (ca. 1816-1853).
She married William Duckworth on 27 February 1868 in Posey County. They had the following children:
James Duckworth (1867-1901)
John Daniel Duckworth (1876-1912)
Mary Duckworth (1878-After 1900)
Rachel Duckworth (1880-After 1930)
Margaret first showed up in the 1850 census in Robinson Township, Posey County, Indiana, USA. (census image here). Most of her family including her parents was on the census page immediately prior to the page she showed up on. (census image here)
I cannot find the family in the 1860 census. However, after her marriage in 1868 to William Duckworth, in the 1870 census we not only see her and William together, we also see her younger sister Rachel and Rachel's husband Samuel Barton, who was William Duckworth's stepbrother. The combined families showed up in Lynn Township in Posey County. (census image here)
By 1880 Margaret and William were living in Center Township of Posey County, along with their children James, John Daniel and Mary (Rachel apparently hadn't been born as of the date of the census). (census image here)
Margaret's husband William died in September 1896 and Margaret died less than a year later, on 4 August 1897 and is buried next to William in the Mount Zion Cemetery in Center Township, Posey County.
John Daniel and Mary and Rachel were still under one roof in the 1900 census, in Robinson Township. Sadly, the boys in the family do not seem to have had terribly long lifespans. The oldest son, James, died in 1901 at age 34 and John Daniel died in 1912 at age 36. I don't know how Mary fared, I don't know what happened to her after the 1900 census, but Rachel was still alive and kicking at the age of 50 in the 1930 census.
