Fielden N. Mills 1851 - 1920

Virgil was the son of Thomas Mills (1825-1908) and Lucretia Barton Mills (1828-1910). He was born 8 March 1851 in Posey County, Indiana, USA.

We first see Fielden in the 1860 census in Robinson Township in Posey County. For some unknown reason, he and his brother Virgil were not living at home when this census was taken, they were staying with their mother's cousin William Barton's family. Apparently because of this, the census taker erroneously thought Virgil and Fielden were part of the Barton family and entered their last names incorrectly on the census. Fielden married Mariah Breeze (1847-1922) in Posey County on 25 April 1870. They had the following child:

Emma Mills (1870-1871)

As of the 1870 census, Fielden and Mariah were living with Mariah's parents and siblings in Black Township in Posey County. (census image here)

By 1880 Fielden and Mariah were living at their own place in Lynn Township in Posey County, which is where they show up in the census that year, along with a 26 year old hired hand named James Carr (no idea if he was related or not). (census image here)

The year 1900 found the couple still living in Lynn Township. By now Fielden's parents Thomas and Lucretia had moved to Gallatin County, Illinois, along with most of his brothers and sisters and their families. (census image here)

1910 didn't bring any changes that showed up in the census records, other than increasing age. (census image here)

By 1920 Fielden and Mariah had moved out of the countryside into Mount Vernon, the county seat of Posey County. (census image here)

That same year, on the 30th of May, Fielden died and was buried in Bellefontaine Cemetery in Mt. Vernon. Mariah died two years later in 1922 and is buried next to him and their daughter Emma in Bellefontaine also.
