Pioneer Resident of the Vicinity Succumbs Tuesday at Home of His Daughter

James Breeze, pioneer resident of this vicinity and a veteran of the Civil War, died at 8:20 o'clock Tuesday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Etna Buchanan, 622 Mill Street. The deceased was 82 years, seven months, and 22 days old and had been in ill health for several months. While visiting a daughter in St. Louis nine months ago Mr. Breeze suffered a paralytic stroke, from which he rallied slightly but was never enabled to gain back his full strength. He returned to this city only a few months ago.

The deceased was born in Black township, the son of Covington and Lucinda Chamberlain Breeze, and had spent practically his entire life in Posey County. He was united in marriage to Mary Barton, who died last May, and a few months prior to their death they observed their fifty-seventh wedding anniversary. Mr. Breeze followed the trade of a carpenter, but later became a farmer. He saw service in the Civil War as a member of Company H, 136th Indiana Infantry. He was a member of Harrow Post, G.A.R.

The near surviving relatives are eight children, John and Covington Breeze, Mrs. Etna Buchanan, Mrs. J.A. Blackburn and Simon Breeze of this city, John and Robert Breeze of near Mt. Vernon, and Mrs. Cora Murphy of St. Louis; three sisters, Mrs. Sophia Hancock of Pueblo Colorado, Mrs. Emma Johnson of Brookport Illinois, and Mrs. Lizzie Woods of San Francisco, Calif.

Funeral services will be conducted at the General Baptist Church at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon in charge of Rev. I.J. Turner a Baptist minister of Evansville. The local post of G.A.R. will also conduct their ritualistic services at the church. The remains of the veteran will be placed in their last resting place in Bellefontaine Cemetery.
