Charles Duncan Duckworth, 86, Burnt Prairie, died at 8:47 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010 at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.
He was born Nov. 3, 1924 in Waverly, Ky., the son of Charles Henry and Nell (Duncan) Duckworth, and was married May 10, 1947 to Norma Musgrave, who survives. Mr. Duckworth was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving on the U.S.S. Enterprise. He was a heavy equipment operator for road construction. He worked for S.J. Groves for several years and later worked at Southern Illinois Asphalt. After retiring, he drove a school bus for the Mill Shoals and New Hope school districts. He was a member of Antioch General Baptist Church at Burnt Prairie and a 50-year member of the Burnt Prairie Masonic Lodge.
Surviving are his wife, Norma, of Burnt Prairie; a son, David Duckworth of Burnt Prairie; a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Jim Funkhouser of Grayville; a sister, Francis Watson of North Richland Hills, Texas; and one grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and an infant daughter.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2010 at Nale's Funeral Home in Fairfield, the Rev. Harold Hughes and the Rev. Ruby McDowell officiating. Burial with full military rites provided by members of the VFW and American Legion posts in Fairfield will follow in Burnt Prairie Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with a Masonic service scheduled for 7 p.m. Memorials may be made to Antioch General Baptist Church Building Fund.
