Carmi native Joyce (Ude) Melton, 89, of Indianapolis, Ind. formerly of Evansville, Ind., died Monday, Jan. 10, 2011, at Westminster North in Indianapolis.

She was born Jan. 4, 1922, in Carmi. She moved to Indianapolis in 2005 to be closer to her family. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Harold D. Melton, in 1996.

She is survived by her daughter, Suzanne (Mike) Copper of Indianapolis; son, Dean (Mary) Melton of Martinsville; sister-in-law, Elton Melton of Evansville; grandchildren, Chad Copper, Kristi Smith, Jeremy Melton and Matt Fredrick; six great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011, at Alexander East Chapel in Evansville, officiated by the Rev. Robert Melhorn, with burial in Sunset

Memorial Park. Friends may visit from 9 a.m. Saturday until service time at the funeral home.
