Anson Barton 1861-1914
Anson Barton was born on 17 November 1861 in Posey County, Indiana, USA, the son of William Barton and Nancy Green Duckworth Barton.
He married
Sophia Ann Blackburn (1865-1952) on 18 September 1884 in Vanderburgh County, Indiana. They had the following children:
Walter Elbert Barton (1886-1983)
Eathel Barton (1889-1926)
Nora Barton (1890-1980)
Grace Barton (1893-1979)
Anson first showed up with his family in the 1870 census in Robinson Township, Posey County, Indiana, USA. (census image here) (View neighbors in HTML)
As of the 1880 census, Anson and his father and stepmother were still in Robinson Township, but all of his siblings and half-siblings had moved out except for his younger brother Otis. (census image here)
Anson married Sophia Ann Blackburn in 1884 and the two of them were found in the 1900 census in Robinson Township. All four of the kids are there along with Anson's sister Elizabeth. (census image here)
1910 found the family still living in Robinson Township, although a bit smaller. Walter wasn't at home but I don't know where he was in 1910, he went on to marry Martha Browning in 1917 and the couple lived in Evansville for some time after that. Anson's sister Elizabeth had also moved out. (census image here)
Anson died in Robinson Township on 2 October 1914 and was buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery near Mount Vernon in Posey County.
Sophia died in 1952 and is buried next to Anson in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
I find somewhat noteworthy the longevity of Anson and Sophia's children; only Eathel died at a young age (at 36). Her three siblings, like their mother Sophia (who died at age 87), had quite long lifespans, living respectively to 96 (Walter), 90 (Nora), and 86 (Grace) years old. It would be interesting to look at Sophia and Anson's grandchildren as well to see if that longevity persisted more than a generation.
