Wilson G. Barton ca. 1841-1886
Wilson Barton was born ca. 1841 in Posey County, Indiana, USA, the son of William Barton and Mary Jane Jones Barton.
He married Nancy Aldridge Venable (1845-1875) on 26 September 1867 in Posey County. They had the following children:
William B. Barton (1870-After 1870)
Alvin Barton (1872-After 1880)
Daughter Barton (1875-1875)
After Nancy's death in 1875 Wilson married Sarah Moore (1853-1934) in 1876. They had the following children:
Paulina Barton (1878-1892)
Neelie Ann Barton (1880-1907)
Angeloe Barton (1882-1965)
Cora Barton (1885-1968)
Essie Barton (1887-After 1910)
Wilson first shows up with his family in the 1850 census in Robinson Township, Posey County, Indiana, USA. (census image here)
As of the 1860 census, Wilson was still living with his father and stepmother in Robinson Township, Posey County, Indiana, USA. (census image here) (View neighbors in HTML)
On 20 August 1862 in Mount Vernon, Indiana, Wilson joined Company G of the 91st Indiana Volunteer Infantry of the Union Army. Wilson was mustered in as a Private and mustered out on 26 June 1865 in Salisbury, Rowan County, North Carolina (perhaps ironically, only two counties over from where his grandfather Samuel had been born in North Carolina around 1788).
Wilson married Nancy Aldridge Venable in 1867 and the two of them and their son William showed up in the 1870 census in Robinson Township. (census image here)
Nancy died in February 1875, apparently in childbirth with a daughter who either died with her or was stillborn. I have been unable to determine where she or any of her children are buried.
Wilson married Sarah Moore on 27 July 1876 in Posey County. At the time of the 1880 census, they were living in Robinson Township with his son Alvin and their daughters Paulina and Neelie Ann. (census image here)
Wilson died on 13 November 1886 in Robinson Township. I believe he is buried in the Samuel Jones Cemetery in Marrs Township, Posey County (I assume that the cemetery is named after his mother's relatives, and it is indeed possible that his mother is buried here but the stone has been lost). Sarah married John Cox in 1889 but divorced him by 1900, she died in August 1934 and is buried in Laurel Hill Cemetery in Posey County.
