Benjamin Downen ca. 1858 - After 1870
Benjamin Downen was born in Posey County, Indiana, USA, ca. 1858. He was the son of William Downen and Rutha Maria Gwaltney Downen.
I have not been able to locate any marriage or descendant information about Benjamin.
Benjamin first appeared in the 1860 census in Robinson Township in Posey County.
The family name was rendered as Downey, not Downen, but if you know that you can easily find them in the census. (census image here)

After the 1870 census, there is no further record of Benjamin. His mother Rutha died in 1874 and was buried in Kissick/Downen Cemetery in Posey County. His father William and most of the rest of the family moved to Mount Vernon, which was where they were living as of the 1880 census. The Indiana death records which can be searched online don't begin until 1882 (and aren't complete either, for that matter). It is likely that he died between 1870 and 1880, but unless some other information comes to light the particulars of his fate will remain unknown. I have found no trace of him in the Posey County burial records I have access to, nor have I seen him in the Gallatin County, Illinois records (where his sister Delia ended up).
