Johnson Downen 1805 - 1855
Johnson Downen was born on 26 August 1805 in Muhlenberg County. He was the son of Job Downen (1768-1842) and Mary Elizabeth Robinson (1769-1856).
He married Hicksy Bowden (1807-1867) in 1824. They had the following children:

David Daniel Downen (1829 - 1865)
Samuel Downen (1831 - 1861)
Josiah Sam Downen (1833 - 1855)
Henry Downen (1835 - After 1860)
John Downen (1836 - After 1860)
Mary Downen (1840 - 1855)
Francis Downen (1842 - 1845)
Thomas Downen (1844 - 1922)
Sarah Downen (1846 - 1846)
Johnson Downen (1849 - After 1860)
I haven't had much luck finding Johnson in the census, although I have found his father in the 1810 and 1820 censuses in Kentucky. By 1830 his father Job had moved to Posey County, Indiana, but the only evidence I have found that Johnson lived there is that his oldest son was born in Indiana. What I have found is that all of Johnson's children after the third one were born in Illinois, and Johnson bought land in Schuyler County, Illinois in 1838. Johnson died on 11 September 1855 in Missouri. His burial place is unknown. His widow Hicksy and two youngest sons showed up in the 1860 census in McDonough County, Illinois. Hicksy died in 1867 but I don't know where she is buried either, although McDonough County is definitely a possibility. Their son Samuel died in 1861 and he is buried in the Vail Cemetery there.
