Margaret Utley
Margaret Downen was born ca. 1800 in Christian County, Kentucky, USA, the daughter of Job Downen (1768-1842) and Mary Elizabeth Robinson (1769-1856).
She married Frederick Utley (1799-1860) on 23 November 1820 in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky. They had the following children:
Frederick Utley (1823 - (1860-1870))
William Utley (1829 - 1911)
Susan Utley (1831 - After 1850)
Malcolm Utley (1833 - After 1850)
Josiah Utley (1834 - 1919)
Eliza Utley (1836 - (1881-1889))
David Utley (1839 - 1915)
Because Margaret died before 1850 and was never the head of household since her husband outlived her, there are no census records that list her by name. However, her presence can be inferred in the 1830 census in Posey County, Indiana. The census for Robb Township listed the entire family. Margaret's age is misstated but I think that is because of the way the census questions were worded. As I was spot checking the census page I noticed that Margaret's father Job was listed on the same page as the Utley family. (census image here)
The 1840 census found the family in Robinson Township of Posey County. There are two adult females listed, one in her 30s and one in her 40s, so it's impossible to tell which one is Margaret and which is some other unnamed female. Margaret's cousin George Tillman Downen showed up on the same census page as Margaret's family. (census image here)
Margaret is believed to have died in 1844 in Posey County. Her burial place is unknown.
