Thomas Gallagher 1851 - 1905
Thomas Gallagher was born on 24 December 1851 in Indiana, USA, the son of Patrick Gallagher (????-????) and Katherine Dowd Gallagher.
I have not been able to ascertain whether Thomas ever married or had children. The only two times I have found him in the census his marital status is listed as "single", and he is buried next to his mother Katherine in Bellefontaine Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Indiana.
Tom's parents were married in Vigo County, Indiana in 1848 but I have not been able to find them in the census. Tom's mother showed up in the 1860 census in Posey County, Indiana with Tom's half-brother Marimon Davis, but there was no trace of Tom. At the age of 9 or 10 one would not have expected him to be far from his mother, but I don't know where he was.
Tom first showed up in the census at the age of 28 in Center Township of Posey County, with Job Oliver and his family. The relationship between Job and Tom may have been strictly business, but Tom's mother Katherine had married Job's first cousin William Barton, so the two were related indirectly through marriage. The next surviving census that Tom showed up in was in Robinson Township of Posey County in 1900. Interestingly, this is the only census that we know of that he showed up with his mother Katherine in. (census image here)
Tom died on 16 October 1905 in Posey County and was, as mentioned earlier, buried in Bellefontaine Cemetery. His mother Katherine died almost 10 years after him, in 1915, and is buried next to him in Bellefontaine Cemetery.
