Elizabeth Sarah (or Sarah Elizabeth) Hancock was born ca. 1852 in Indiana, USA, of unknown parents.
She married Job Downen Barton in 1868, probably in Posey County, Indiana.
Elizabeth and Job had the following children:
Harriet Azilee Barton (1877-1954)
Charles Wilson Barton (1884-1962)
Otis Downen Barton (1885-1963)
Effie Barton (1891-1966)
Elizabeth and Job were living in Robinson Township in Posey County as of the 1870 census, along with Job's father William Barton and stepmother Katherine Webb Gallagher Barton. (census image here) (View neighbors in html)
I have not been able to find Elizabeth and Job in the 1880 census, but as far as can be determined they were living in Ripley County, Missouri in 1880. The four children who were known to be born to them between 1877 and 1891 were all born in Missouri, and later death records specifically list the birthplace of some of the children as Ripley County.
On an unknown date between the birth of their youngest child Effie in August 1891 and the 1900 census, Elizabeth died. I don't know any more than that or where she is buried. Some sources list her death date as August 1890, these sources also list Effie's birth month as August 1890, implying that she died from complications of childbirth with Effie. If that is the case then she actually died in August 1891 as later records for Effie indicate that was her actual birth month.
Job and the most of the family moved to Reyno, Randolph County, Arkansas before 1900, and after that to Ventura County, California. (I don't know if Effie moved to Ventura County or not but she was definitely in Southern California by 1924, when she was married in Santa Ana in Orange County. Job died in 1932 in Santa Paula, California, and is buried in Bardsdale Cemetery in Ventura County, along with a number of his and Elizabeth's direct descendants as well as two of his nieces and their descendants.
