Littleton Keeling 1796 - 1858
Littleton Keeling was born in February 1796 in Virginia, USA, the son of Leonard Keeling (1766-????) and Ann Thompson Keeling (????-????).
He married Elizabeth Byrd (1810-1883) on 10 March 1827 in Posey County, Indiana. They had the following children:
Mary E. Keeling (1833-1894)
James Keeling (ca. 1835-Unknown)
Martha Jane Keeling (1840-1912)
Charles Littleton Keeling (1843-1912)
George Keeling (ca. 1848-After 1870)
The first documented evidence I can find of Littleton was his purchase of property in Posey County in 1826, the following link is to the record of the transaction. (Land office record image here)
The first (and so far only) place I've found Littleton in the census was in 1830 for Black Township of Posey County. The only other person listed in the census (we can infer Littleton and Elizabeth by their ages and genders) was a girl who was under the age of 5 in 1830. If this is a daughter of Littleton and Elizabeth's, her name has been lost to us, since the oldest known child of the couple was Mary who was born in 1833. (census image here)
Littleton lived to see his daughter Martha Jane marry Walter Allyn in 1855, but none of the other children married during his lifetime. He died on 18 March 1858 in Black Township. He is buried in the Templeton Graveyard on the outskirts of Mount Vernon, Indiana.
