Rachel Pickles
Rachel was the daughter of Thomas Mills (1825-1908) and Lucretia Barton Mills (1828-1910). She was born on 8 January 1864 in Posey County, Indiana, USA.
Rachel married William Pickles (1862-1945) in Posey County on 7 February 1884. They had the following children:
Eunice Pickles (1884-1923)
Elsie Pickles (1886-1974)
Homer Pickles (1887-1889)
Lee Pickles (1889-1957)
Edith Pickles (1893-1972)
Thomas J. Pickles (1895-1982)
Lucy Pickles (1897-1959)
We first see Rachel in the census in 1870 in Robinson Township in Posey County. (census image here) (View neighbors in html)
As of the 1880 census, Rachel and her parents showed up once more in Robinson Township. Of her older siblings, only Felix and Allen were still living at home, everyone else had gotten married and moved out. Her younger brothers Joseph and Lawrence were still there, as well as her nephew Lawrence (Felix's son) who was about a year old at that time. (census image here) (View neighbors in HTML)
Rachel married William Pickles in 1884, they continued living in Posey County until some point between 1889 and 1893 when they moved to Gallatin County, Illinois. They showed up in the 1900 census in Asbury Township of Gallatin County. (census image here)
1910 found the family still in Asbury Township, with the exception of Eunice, who had married Ancel Hedges and was living nearby somewhere else in Asbury Township. (census image here)
For some reason I cannot find Rachel and William in the 1920 census. All the children appear to have moved out by then and set up their own households.
Rachel died on 24 September 1927 in Omaha Township, Gallatin County. She is buried in Palestine #2 Cemetery in Gallatin County. William lived until 1945, when he died in Harrisburg, Illinois. He too is buried in Palestine #2, next to Rachel.
