Thompson Oliver 1846 - 1887
Thompson was the son of Job Oliver and Elizabeth Jones, born in Posey County, Indiana, USA, on 3 June 1846.
He married Kisiah Ramsey on 14 November 1869 in Posey County. They had the following children:
Job Oliver (1870-1956)
Elva Oliver (1871-After 1900)
Della Oliver (1873-After 1930)
Mary Oliver (1876-1897)
Minnie Oliver (1878-1878)
Elizabeth Oliver (1879-1879)
Rachel Oliver (1880-1883)
Nina Oliver (1883-After 1900)
George Oliver (1885-1971)
Thompson was first listed in the 1850 census with his family in Robinson Township, Posey County, Indiana, USA (census image here) (View neighbors in HTML)
Thompson's mother Elizabeth Jones Oliver died in 1855, but his father remarried in 1857 and Thompson and the rest of the family along with his stepmother Elizabeth Ann Shaw can be found in the 1860 census, still in Robinson Township, Posey County. (census image here)
By 1870 the family had moved to Center Township in Posey County, where they appear in the census that year. Thompson and Kisiah appear on the same page as his brother William and sister-in-law Rachel Causey Oliver. Their father and stepmother appear at the bottom of the same census page, with the rest of the family spilling over to the next page. (census image here)
In 1880 Thompson and Kisiah and four of their children appeared once more in the Center Township census records. Despite the heartbreak of losing two daughters as infants, their other children must have been in reasonably good health and Kisiah was pregnant with what turned out to be another daughter. Rachel, Nina and George were all born in the next several years, although Rachel only lived to be three years old. On 1 June 1887, only two days before his 41st birthday, Thompson died. I have not found out what exactly happened, but his death must have been a terrible blow to the family. The oldest boy, Job, was by then almost 17 years old and perhaps was in a position to take up some of the slack, but I really don't know. I do know that Kisiah's father-in-law Job Oliver was quite well to do and one of the leading citizens of Posey County, if there were any financial difficulties he may have been able to smooth them over.
Thompson was laid to rest in the Mount Zion Cemetery in Posey County next to the three daughters who had predeceased him, and not far from where his stepmother and father would eventually be buried. When Kisiah died in 1912 she in turn was laid to rest next to him.
