Version 9.0 is distributed as a self-extracting, compressed archive. Both PcHunter and Tempus Fugit may be installed using the same install package. Two types of installers are available: a full installer and an update installer. The update installer can be used to upgrade any installation of Version 8.0 or higher. To upgrade all other versions the full installer must be used.
Both installers are self-extracting installation programs. Wizards will lead you through the installation process. Version 9.0 also has an uninstaller. This can be accessed through Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel.
Your registration number and serial number are required if you are upgrading from version 5.x or 6.x.
If you are running version 5.x, 6.x, 7.x or 8.x, the v9.x update will require a database upgrade. A database upgrade makes structural changes to the database and must be installed off-line. All users must be running the same version of the software when an upgrade of this type is performed.
The default installation directory for version 9.0 is:
C:\Program Files\Micro J Systems\
Unless you have specific reasons for not doing so, Micro J recommends you use the default installation directory to expedite support questions. The installer will create three sub-directories:
PcHunter
\PcHunter: This folder includes all the files necessary to run PcHunter.
\Sample Data: This folder includes a sample datafile, resumes and a collection of reports for the MJ-Reports module.
\Utility: This folder includes utilities for maintaining your Version 9.0 installation.
Tempus Fugit
\Tempus: This folder includes all the files necessary to run Tempus Fugit.
\Sample Data: This folder includes a sample datafile, resumes and a collection of reports for the MJ-Reports module.
\Utility: This folder includes utilities for maintaining your Version 9.0 installation.
Note about multiple datafiles: You should always store datafiles in separate directories. PcHunter and Tempus Fugit both use external file folders to store information such as attached documents. To link this information with records in the database the record code (e.g. people code) is used. Each time a record is created the program performs a check to ensure each code is unique. Because this check cannot be performed across multiple datafiles there is a good chance codes will be the same. In this case the external information can become crossed and under certain circumstances lost. IF YOU MAINTAIN MULTIPLE DATAFILES, MAKE SURE TO THEY ARE IN SEPARATE DIRECTORIES BOTH DURING AND AFTER THE UPDATE.
The time required to complete this update will vary widely depending upon the size of your datafile, speed of your computer, and the number of records in your database. It will also depend on which version you are upgrading from. As a general rule the datafile update should not take more than 8 hours to complete. If the update takes longer than 8 hours contact Chris Mills.
