Tec5 Victor Stolla was killed along with 165 other soldiers and sailors when LST-577 was torpedoed by a Japanese submarine off the east coast of Mindano, the Philippines, on 10 February 1945. The official death date of all those who were MIA is 11 February, when the floating remnants of the LST were scuttled by a US Navy vessel, but it is likely that most if not all of those who died did so on the previous day when the LST was torpedoed.
