MAN LOST
Montrose, Cal., Oct. 7 (UP)
William E. Salter, 81-year-old camper, has been missing from Buckhorn camp near Mount Waterman in the Sierra Madre mountains for three days, sheriff's deputies reported today.

Salter's daughter, Mrs. Florence E. Gibson, said he left the camp early Saturday and was not seen again. A boy scout troop and a 25-man posse searched yesterday but failed to find him.

Per death certificate dated 8 May 1950

Cause of death impossible to determine, only dry disarticulated bones recovered. Remains found 30 April 1950, location described as Cooper Canyon near Little Rock Creek, rural Lancaster. (The closest populated places to this area now would be Pearblossom or Littlerock). Informants were Salter's grandsons, Robert and James Gibson.

I don't know what became of his cremains. I would think if the family got them back he would have been buried in Forest Lawn Glendale where his wife and one of his brothers (and son-in-law) are all buried. Based on that I have gone ahead and assumed his cremains were buried at the LA County Crematory Cemetery. It is possible of course that they ended up back with his family.
