Brian's father is listed as Harry Schlappe on his find a grave memorial, I wasn't sure that was right but I found an obituary abstract that confirmed his father was Harry, so I've gone ahead and replicated that link here.

The story we heard at school (and almost 47 years later I have no idea if it was true or not) was that Brian was shocked by an electric water pump for an irrigation ditch (not sure if he was working on the ditch or the pump or what was going on). Supposedly the shock caused him to lose consciousness and he fell into the irrigation ditch and drowned.

Brian was a decent kid. I wasn't particularly close to him but his death flabbergasted me. He had an uncle that taught at the school and I'll never forget the look on his uncle's face after he got the news. It was one of the first times I experienced tragedy firsthand and I still remember it vividly.
