From time to time I audit the "famous" find a grave memorials in Forest Lawn Glendale, and that was how this gentleman came to my attention. When I scraped the Forest Lawn website and Find A Grave in 2011, I believe this guy had a memorial number of 4978 and I believe the Forest Lawn website showed his death date as 11 September 1986. Since at that time the FL website didn't show birth dates or years (now it only shows years if it shows anything at all) I believe the birth date I had of 30 April 1917 came from the Find A Grave memorial. I didn't match him against the California Death Index at that time since there are no birth or death events recorded for him.

As of 2021 we have a mystery. The original FAG memorial is gone, and it's highly unusual for a memorial with that low a number (which are all "famous" memorials) to be deleted. This has to have been done by the FAG administration because no one else can do that. According to the Wayback machine the memorial was deleted before 16 December 2018.

There is a newer memorial which appears to be a replacement for the original memorial, because the names match (Harry for the first name and Brown for the surname) and the birth date matches exactly and the death year matches to the year (but not the exact date). However, upon checking the Forest Lawn website, they show the person in this space as being born in 1909 not 1917. Not that Forest Lawn is perfect, I do find mistakes on their site, but they don't have as many errors as Find A Grave has.

In 2021 I flagged Harry and Laura to get marker photos and I did in fact find their marker and post photos on 12 October 2021. However, I neglected to finish cleaning up their records and these notes at the time.

I suspected their family search IDs were LKD8-S32 and L2JL-PTR, but couldn't really confirm it until I looked at their marker.

The couple was living in Los Angeles in 1940, but I have found no record of them in the California Death Index which goes up through the year 1997. I have also tried the social security Death Master File with no luck, but since I don't know the wife's birthday it's almost impossible to make a match with the DMF with so little information (and such a common last name, if in fact her legal surname was still Brown at the time of her death).

I have created a new record that matches the newer memorial for the writer Harry Brown who is listed on Find A Grave. I have done this because it is highly likely that this person isn't even buried at Forest Lawn Glendale. There are two glaring omissions on the new memorial for Harry Brown, there is no marker photo and there is no plot location. Also, the writer Harry Brown's wife was named June, not Laura, so that is another strike against him being this person. Yes, it is theoretically possible he is actually at Forest Lawn, but without a marker photo and a plot location, much less likely.

In the coincidence department, the years that Forest Lawn has for this guy match a guy with the same name who is buried in Arlington National Cemetery. The guy died in California and shows up in the CADI. However, since Brown is such a common name, this is very likely just a garden variety coincidence. They are definitely two different men, I know that now since I got a marker photo for the one in Forest Lawn Glendale.

I'm going to take one more stab at finding an obituary for Harry and /or Laura to see if I can find out any more information, such as where they died. Whether I find that out or not, I'm not going to spend much more time on this, I'm amazed I managed to find as much information as I did, especially Laura's birthplace and maiden name.
