I was mentally ready to file this as yet another "some fool on find a grave thinks this (not terribly) famous person is buried at Forest Lawn Glendale who isn't" category. But there was something intriguing from the Find A Grave memorial which did get me to do a bit of digging.

That was specifically this verbiage:
"Interred in the Freedom Mausoleum at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, California. Her specific plot is located in the Faith of Our Fathers Terrace."

That area is the upper floor of the Freedom Mausoleum. I've never heard it referred to by that name before, but it is possible that is what it is called. If that is the case it is named for the Faith of our Fathers Corridor, which connects the different sanctuaries on that level both to each other and to the doors which open onto the Court of Freedom.

I was looking at the FOOFC anyway to make sure I had a record of everyone there, and I did find one cenotaph which is not listed on the Forest Lawn website, so that was useful. In any event, the corridor is rather sparsely populated other than the sanctuaries which it is adjacent to. Les Kelley of Kelley Blue Book fame and his daughter have a lovely memorial on one end and a well off family named Miller have an equally impressive monument at the other end, although for some reason the son doesn't have a marker. There is a plaque on one wall for Douglas Edmonds which must be a cenotaph, because he is supposedly actually inurned in the Great Mausoleum in the Iris Columbarium. There is also a cenotaph for a man who died in the World Trade Center named Jonathan Jay Uman.

So as far as the actual FOOF Corridor goes, there is no trace of Shirley Haven/Shirley Welch. If she is in one of the adjoining sanctuaries, she is not listed on the Forest Lawn website under any possible combination of her names, either legal or stage or maiden. The sanctuaries on that side of the FM must contain hundreds if not thousands of remains, so it's not like someone can just go in there and look at every marker and find her.

If the person who had posted that verbiage on the Find A Grave memorial actually had a real sanctuary name to list instead of the generic "terrace" they used, it would give a big boost to the chances of her actually being there. Unfortunately, as things stand now, this may be just another example of someone on find a grave blowing smoke out of their ass, proverbially speaking.

Pragmatically, there are two other problems with Shirley being in Forest Lawn Glendale. She has no known relatives there, her husband and her daughter are both at Angelus Rosedale in Los Angeles, her father is buried in northern California and no one apparently knows exactly when and where her mother died, let alone where she is buried. In addition, Shirley died in Grant County in central Washington State, which is nowhere near Los Angeles County and also makes it seem less likely that she would be buried or inurned here.

I do pop in from time to time on the Freedom Mausoleum and am likely to continue doing so. I am going to make an effort to actually figure out which other sections are on that level of the FM and so I might stumble upon something and get lucky if she is actually there. But I'm not holding my breath. For the meantime I am still classifying Shirley as not actually being in Forest Lawn Glendale until I can see some proof.
